Coffs Coast coup as genius heads our way
IN A massive win for fans of electronic music genius, Coffs Harbour has been added to the exclusive DJ tour of epic UK band Friendly Fires.
Drummer Jack Savidge will be heading to the Plantation Hotel on January 4.
Incredibly this Coffs Harbour gig is the only date of the tour taking place in regional Australia with the rest of the performances in capital cities and the Peats Ridge Festival.
"Australia's always been one of the most fun places to tour, so I'm thrilled to be playing some amazing parties down under over the new year," Jack said.
It's likely true, too, as Jack has made the long haul journey from the UK to Australia at least three times in the past year.
Friendly Fires wowed audiences at Future Music Festival as well as Splendour in the Grass.
Jack's DJ skills have always been a badly kept secret, and he's actually been DJing since before Friendly Fires was born. Keeping their hand in, the band released DJ mix compilation Suck My Deck to high praise in 2010.
It may give you some idea of their style to know that they name German techno label Kompakt and Detroit don Carl Craig among their greatest influences - pretty mean electro chops for an indie band.
In further adventures, Jack recently began an underground DJ project with Edwin from Foals called Deep Sh*t - stay tuned.
The band was also asked to curate The Past, Present and Future of Dance Music stage at premiere UK festival Bestival, booking Frankie Knuckles, A Guy Called Gerald, SBTRKT and TEED.
It's pretty illustrious company, and it will be an interesting gig from a man with one well-shod foot in both rock and electro camps.
