Coastal path over budget $1.15m, meeting told

ADDITIONAL funds will be transferred to the shared path west of The Coast Road after a Ballina council capital expenditure review found all three sections were over budget by a total of $1.15 million.

The funds will be diverted from works on Tamar St, Midgen Flat Rd and the small bridge and causeway program.

The shared path is a section of the multi-million dollar shared coastal pathways project, running west of The Coast Road via Skennars Head Rd and North Creek Rd.

Section two of the shared path will cost an additional $320,000 after the original budget of $840,000 was revised to $1.16m.

A council report said the increased cost was due to additional excavation and pavement work needed to match the new path to the existing path at Skennars Head Rd along the south, as well as the widening of a retaining wall and changes to foundation designs.

A motion was also put forward to have bi-monthly updates on the coastal recreational pathways at Ballina Shire Council ordinary meetings. However, the motion was lost.
