Coast actor makes the big time in the US

FOR a Hollywood actor living in the big city, a fortnight's break back home on the Sunshine Coast is seventh heaven.

Relaxing at his parents' Twin Waters home, Leigh Parker is happy to be far from the hustle and bustle of his American life.

The 25-year-old former Mountain Creek High student moved to Los Angeles three years ago to pursue an acting career.

He has since appeared in the TV series Supernatural and recently finished filming his first movie.

Back on the Coast, Parker plans on spending time with his family, surfing and conducting acting workshops with Serena's Image.

"I am going to be doing as much surfing as humanly possible. Even though there is a beach in LA, you don't get that feeling you have it yourself like you do here," he said.

"You never realise how quiet it is at home.

"The air also feels clean."

His career began as a teenager when he became the face of Wet'n'Wild theme park.

He then appeared in television commercials for Domino's Pizza and The Waterfront Hotel.

Three years ago, while participating in an acting workshop in Sydney, Parker met Brett Ratner, director of the X-Files series, The Family Man, Red Dragon and X-Men.

"After watching a scene of mine in class, Brett Ratner came up to me and told me to pack my bags and make a go of it in LA," he said.

"Once there, he invited me on the set of a TV series he was working on, where I got to meet some pretty high-profile actors and really get a feel for how things are done over there."

Parker has since appeared in the TV series Supernatural and as a high school football player in a feature film, which will be released next year.

With his green card approved, he plans to move to Los Angeles permanently.

"I can't wait to get back and start working with my agent to see what projects are coming up and see where it all takes me," he said.
