Clubs call for softball sluggers to have a hit

SOFTBALL Far North Coast's season begins tonight and it's calling for anyone interested to get involved.

The 'Lil Sluggers' (preschool), 'Batter Up' (primary), juniors, mixed social and open league competitions start at Albert Park, Lismore tonight from 5pm.

The association's president Di McGowen encouraged people of all ages to come down and try out the game, irrespective of whether they have ties to the club.

"We are really driving out the word this year as we need to build our younger stock, in particular young girls to the sport," she said.

"We struggle for numbers against the more profitable sports these days, but the skills set, camaraderie and enjoyment I have seen come from this sport locally warrants the association to press forward."

The association has launched a Wednesday afternoon training camp for juniors, aged from five, which is run by development officer Selina Atkinson.

For more information contact Atkinson on 0411 733 669.
