Club doubles its numbers
THE North Coast Gymnastics competition squad has doubled its numbers from 2012 and is preparing for a busy year.
About 90 gymnasts have signed up for 2013 with the first invitational competition at the Phyllis Street gymnasium in South Lismore next month.
"It's quite early in the year and we're doing a lot of fundraising and preparation for competition," deputy director Reen Light said.
"It's an orientation term where we introduce them to coaches and the team at training.
"We had a big presentation night last year and that really showcased the variety in everything we do.
"We sold 550 tickets and were at capacity for the show.
"I think that's helped us get some extra numbers this year."
The competition next month will attract gymnastics from as far afield as Coffs Harbour.
The club offers classes for men and women and includes trampoline and rhythmic gymnastics events.
"It's a cheap sport and we offer a bit of everything," Light said.
"Our busy time for competition is August and we do plenty of work in the lead-up.
"It should be an exciting competition year with the numbers we have in the squad."
