Classes for aspiring Aboriginal police

TEN indigenous people from across the Northern Rivers have started a bridging course at Casino TAFE they hope will lead to a career in the police force.

Indigenous Police Recruitment Our Way Delivery (IPROWD) - now in its third year - is a full-time 16-week Certificate II course providing training in communication, computers, police ethics, essay writing, mathematics, Aboriginal Studies, general fitness and health.

Those who complete the course will have a leg up if they go on to continue their law enforcement training at the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn.

The students at Casino TAFE come from a range of backgrounds and include school leavers, a former Casino abattoir worker and a mother-of-three.
