Clarence Valley tied to NOROC for another year

WHETHER Mayor Richie Williamson likes it or not the Clarence Valley will still have to be a member of the Northern Rivers Regional Organisation of Councils for the next 12 months said President and Lismore City mayor Jenny Dowell.

Cr Dowell said she was surprised when Cr Williamson told her via email that the council would be resigning from NOROC.

"I'm disappointed and I think the decision is regrettable as Clarence Valley Council was a valued member and their input was also valuable," Cr Dowell said.

She said the Clarence Valley had benefited from the housing affordability program which she said came out of NOROC.

Cr Williamson rejected that claim and said the Valley is actually a national leader in housing affordability and NOROC was following our example.

He reiterated the statement membership in the organisation was not value for money. "My view is we're not getting value for money out of NOROC and it is my responsibility to ensure ratepayers get more value for money," Cr Williamson said.
