Newsagent wins top award for effort to build business

A HUSBAND and wife team claimed the top gong for newsagents across south-east Queensland after a year of doing their business proud.

Bruce and Robyn Nowland from nextra Yamanto claimed the member of the year award ahead of 114 stores.

The pair has owned the Yamanto business for nine years after heading west from the glitzy Brisbane suburb of Bulimba.

Mrs Nowland said receiving the award was a reward for effort.

She said the newsagency has formed an extended family of regulars who come in at least on a weekly basis to get their Lotto tickets, newspapers and magazines.

She said the award was handed to the newsagent who most closely followed the company's ideals.

"It makes all the hard work worthwhile," she said.

Mrs Nowland said it was the customers that kept her coming back day after day.

"It is probably the customers. Most people are really friendly around here."

A nextra spokesperson said the winner had the same visions compliance with core standards; enthusiastic marketing and most of all, valued the strength of group membership in order to achieve individual goals.

"Head office would like to take this opportunity to publicly recognise Robyn and Bruce, and the team at news extra Yamanto's commitment to the nextra Group and more over the news extra brand," the spokesperson said.

"Robyn and Bruce, for your support, your advice and your assistance - you represent everything that we, the nextra Group, aim to achieve - you are most deserving of the news extra Member of the Year Award for 2014."
