Christmas in jail for man accused of murder

A CASINO man charged with murder over the assault of another man outside a Casino hotel in September will spend Christmas behind bars.

Police allege Paul Ian Lane, 52, assaulted Peter Morris, also 52, and Christopher Schwager, 38, on Barker St in Casino on September 16.

Lane, who is in custody, did not appear in court to answer five charges including murder, recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The court heard police had prepared the brief of evidence but both the prosecution and defence were still preparing their cases.

Magistrate R Denes adjourned the matter until February 5.
