Christmas Eve bashing victim dies in hospital

ASSAULT charges against a man accused of a savage Christmas Eve bashing have been upgraded to murder after the 47-year-old victim died in hospital overnight.

A 40-year-old allegedly bashed his victim with a baseball bat and chair leg at a unit in the NSW town of Armidale on Monday afternoon.

He was originally charged with reckless wounding and using a weapon to commit an offence but was re-arrested and charged with murder following the man's death.

He fronted the Armidale Local Court today and was refused bail.
