Chow Town is foodie heaven at Big Day Out

MUSIC has always been the main attraction at the Big Day Out, but this year the food has been stepped up a notch to go with it.

Chow Town at Parklands Gold Coast includes pop-up stalls from local eateries including The Kettle and Tin, Byron Bay's Top Shop and JR's Smokehouse Barbecue.

Kayla Mayall, of Morningside was keen to get into her Top Shop Mushroom Burger as a change from the fried food options at previous festivals.

"I'm a vegetarian so it's nice to have a few options that don't have cheese too," Ms Mayall said.

Ms Mayall is hoping the feed will get her through until 8.30pm when the Red Hot Chili Peppers close the Blue Stage.

It was hard and heavy on the main stages early in the afternoon with Every Time I Die and Against Me, but it was Grinspoon who drew in the crowds.

Sydney based Jagwar Ma played the Essential Stage, admitting three songs into their set it was only their fourth time playing together.

The duo, including Lost Valentinos' Jono Ma and Gabrielle Winterfield have enjoyed radio play on Triple J with their first single Come Save Me.

Tonight, headliners The Killers will play the Orange Stage at 7.05pm while the The Bloody Beetroots close the festival in the Booiler Room at 9.30pm.
