China jails Australian businessman

AUSTRALIAN businessman Matthew Ng is expected to appeal after a Chinese court sentenced him on Tuesday to 13 years' jail for bribery and embezzlement.

The executive, who was working for travel services group Et-China in southern China when he was arrested in November 2010, is expected to appeal the sentence, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) said.

"The Australian Government understands Matthew Ng intends to appeal his 13-year sentence on four charges relating to embezzlement and bribery," DFAT said in a statement on Tuesday.
