Guilty plea to 42 child sex charges: Former Woodlawn teacher
A FORMER St John's College Woodlawn teacher who pleaded guilty to 42 child sex-related charges on Tuesday will be sentenced in July.
In April 2014, police began investigating claims that 10 former college students had been sexually assaulted by a teacher during their time at Woodlawn.
Investigations by police led to Richard O'Connor being arrested at his home in Dibb St, East Lismore, on June 4, 2014.
O'Connor initially faced 36 charges relating to alleged offences against 10 victims between 1978 and 1989.
In September last year an additional 13 charges were laid, then at Lismore Local Court on May 19 police said they had added another six charges.
O'Connor was accused of having non-consensual sex with some victims, inciting some to masturbate in front of him and inciting some to touch his penis.
Charges included sexual assault, indecent assault and act of indecency on persons under 16 and sexual intercourse without consent on persons under 16.
On Tuesday at Lismore Local Court the prosecution withdrew 14 charges against the 75-year-old.
O'Connor's solicitor Hugh Van Dugteren entered guilty pleas to the other charges against his client.
Magistrate David Heilpern ordered O'Connor to appear in the Lismore District Court for sentencing.
O'Connor, who was previously refused bail, will remain in custody until sentencing.
