Child dies after being hit by log truck driven by his father

A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy has died after he was struck by a log truck being backed by his father at Swansea on Tasmania's East Coast.

The distraught family called emergency services to Gordon St in Swansea shortly after 4pm yesterday, following the incident.

Police said the 39-year-old father of the boy had been slowly reversing the fully-laden log truck, including jinker, against a fence when it struck the child who was behind it.

The boy was unable to be saved and was declared dead at the scene.

Police said the truck driver was not physically injured but was extremely distraught.

The incident is being investigated by Swansea Police.
