Cherry-Evans in 'right head space'

FEW people will be under more pressure in tomorrow's second State of Origin clash than halfback Daly Cherry-Evans.

And that is without even considering the fallout from his decision to re-sign with Manly and leave the Gold Coast Titans in the lurch.

There can be few tougher roles than to come in mid-series as starting halfback, as Cherry-Evans has done for the injured Cooper Cronk.

But Queensland attack coach Kevin Walters, the man charged with ensuring Cherry-Evans slots in seamlessly, has no doubts he will handle it.

"He's right," Walters said.

"He's a footy player and he's been good with training so far."

How Evans has dealt with the club contract saga Walters can't say, because it hasn't been mentioned in camp and if it is bothering Cherry-Evans, he's showing no signs of it.

"Once he's got the Queensland jersey on you know his head's right," Walters said.

"He'll be doing his best for the state.

"What happens in club land doesn't concern Daly or us this week."
