Cheetahs outrun Stormers in honour of late CEO

THE Cheetahs honoured the memory of chief executive Gerda von Solms in the best possible way by beating South African rivals, the Stormers, 26-24, a record fifth consecutive Super Rugby win for the franchise.

Von Solms, 58, died on the eve of the showdown in Bloemfontein after she was admitted to hospital with abdominal pains.

An institution at the Free State Rugby Union, von Solms joined the organisation as a typist in 1976.

Five-eighth Burton Francis kicked the winning penalty almost four minutes after the final siren.

After losing against the Sharks and Chiefs, the Cheetahs have beaten the Highlanders, Waratahs, Force, Rebels, and now Stormers.
