Food festival aimed at helping region’s injured wildlife
FINE wine and food in Ballina are the unlikely allies of injured wildlife in the region.
This year's Ballina Fine Wine and Food Festival, organised by the Rotary Club of Ballina-on-Richmond, will support Ballina-based Australian Seabird Rescue, which cares for injured bird-life and turtles.
Seabird Rescue treasurer Keith Williams said it cost $80,000 to keep the organisation going each year, and the food and wine festival was expected to contribute about 10% of that.
"To receive 10% of our annual budget from one event is an enormous gift," said Mr Williams, who also is a Ballina Shire councillor.
Rotary Club of Ballina-on-Richmond president Wayne Crawford said the Rotarians knew Seabird Rescue had been struggling financially.
The Ballina Fine Wine and Food Festival will be held at the Ballina Jockey Club on July 20, from noon to 5pm.
This is the fifth year it has been run.
Tickets for this over-18s event will cost $20.
They are available online at finewinefunfood.com.au or from Tonic Hair Body Beauty at 169 River St, Ballina.
They will also be available at the gate if any remain.
