A 19-YEAR-OLD man has been charged following an investigation into a fatal head-on crash on the Pacific Highway.
The Pacific Highway was closed in both directions for four hours on Saturday, August 26 following a crash which resulted in the death of 44-year-old Matthew Benson.
Emergency services, including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, were called to the scene at, Cowper, about 30km north of Grafton, just before 8am, following reports of a crash.
A Holden Colorado utility, carrying a driver and a passenger, and a Ford Falcon utility crashed head-on. Benson was the driver and sole occupant of the Ford, and died at the scene.
The driver of the Holden and a 19-year-old female passenger were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious condition.
Following investigations by police from the Far North Coast Crash Investigation Unit, the 19-year-old man was served a Future Court Attendance Notice on Friday.
He will face Grafton Local Court on Monday, February 26, next year, charged with dangerous driving occasioning death - drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death), and negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm).
