Man charged with exposing child to cannabis growing

A YOUNG child was living with a Goonellabah man who was arrested and charged yesterday after police allegedly seized 93 cannabis plants from the man's home.

Richmond Local Area Command duty officer Inspector Matt Kehoe said a 42-year-old man was charged with a number of cannabis-related offences including exposing a young child to the cultivation of cannabis.

Police conducted a search warrant at the Rous Rd home at about 9am.

"Police located 93 cannabis plants that varied in size from 1.5m down to seedlings," Insp Kehoe said.

Police allege 89 of the cannabis plants were growing hydroponically inside the house and four outside.

The 42-year-old was arrested and taken to Lismore police station where he was charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis by enhanced indoor means and exposing a child charges relating to the 89 hydroponic plants.

He was also charged with cultivating a prohibited plant over the four plants that were allegedly growing outside the home and with possession of a prohibited drug.

He was granted bail to appear in Lismore Local Court on April 22.

Police notified Community Services about the child.
