Chamber head trapped after crash

A WELL-known and active member of the Lennox Head community is recovering in hospital after a serious car crash on Tuesday.

Louise Owen was driving a Subaru westbound along the Bruxner Highway just outside Casino when she was involved in a head-on crash with an eastbound Ford Falcon.

Mrs Owen is the president of the Lennox Head Chamber of Commerce.

She was the only occupant of the car and was trapped for about half an hour.

The driver of the other vehicle, 62-year-old Heather Flack from Fairy Hill, was also trapped in her vehicle and died at the scene.

Mrs Owen was freed from her car by the Casino Volunteer Rescue Squad and NSW Fire and Rescue then rushed to hospital with chest, shoulder and pelvic injuries.

A Northern NSW Local Health District spokeswoman said yesterday afternoon Mrs Owen was in a stable condition.

Mrs Owen became a strong advocate for organ donation after receiving a heart transplant in 1990.
