I DON'T know what sort of guest he'd be, but he could sure whip you up a spectacular birthday cake.

Master cake maker and owner of the iconic Carlo's Bakery in New Jersey, Valastro is the big personality behind the reality show Cake Boss, which has followed his life as baker, business owner and family man since 2009.

If you're not completely absorbed with the Valastro family dramas, then you're most certainly tuned in to see his incredible themed cakes.

From an out-of-this-world Transformer-inspired cake to a massive replica of the local hospital, there is no other word but 'genius' to describe the intricate and delicate nature of his creations.

Viewers must be constantly asking themselves "How does he do it?"

With his new cookbook, Baking with the Cake Boss, out just in time for the holidays, we can get an insight.

Baking with the Cake Boss features over 100 recipes and reveals family secrets and skills.

But don't stress, Valastro starts out easy, with simple cookies, pastries and pies before pulling out the big theme-cake guns.

Giving you a similarly rigorous education as his apprentice bakers, you'll learn everything from frosting to kneading to how to make those gorgeous little sugar flowers.

It's full of family tales and Buddy's warm New Jersey attitude.

And if you don't want to cook, just marvel at the 650 spectacular photos.

Baking with the Cook Boss written by Buddy Valastro is available through Simon and Schuster. RRP $35.00.
