Cattle sale yarding increases ahead of two week break

WITH no sale for two weeks, due to the Australia Day holiday, cattle numbers increased to 1,274 head at yesterday's Warwick Cattle Sale.  

There was a wide variation in the quality of the young cattle and only a handful of bullocks were penned.  

A fair selection of cows came forward, with most of the regular buyers in attendance and prices easing across all classes.  

Young lightweight cattle and local trade lines were the least affected, while medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed dropped 10c-20c/kg.  

Export slaughter classes were also cheaper, with cows averaging 5c-7c/kg less.  

A few calves to restockers made to 369c and averaged 355c/kg.  

Most of the vealer heifers sold to feeder operators at 323c, with sales to 334c/kg.  

Lightweight yearling steers returning to the paddock mostly sold in the 330c range, while feeder classes made to 362c and averaged 345c/kg. Medium weights to feed averaged 327c and made to 338c/kg.  

The largest number of heavyweights to feed made to 329c and averaged 326c/kg.  

Lightweight yearling heifers to feed mostly sold around 312c, with some to 324c/kg.  

Medium weights to feed averaged 313c and made to 333c/kg.  

A fair sample to the trade made to 338c and averaged 313c/kg.  

A small number of bullocks made to 275c, while medium weight 2 score cows averaged 209c and the 3 scores, 219c/kg.  

The occasional good cow made to 250c, with largest numbers averaging 234c/kg.  

Heavy bulls made to 260c/kg.
