Cattle price firm despite export ban

FEARS the suspension of live cattle exports to Indonesia would impact on local cattle prices have failed to materialise.

According to stock agent Kevin Cocciola of Ian Weir and Son, prices were firm at both the Lismore sales on Tuesday and the Casino sales yesterday.

At the sales, six to seven month old vealers weighing from 230kg achieved prices up to $600.

Mr Cocciola said cattle in both of this week’s sales were destined for the domestic restaurant market, and that buyers were looking for fattened local cattle as dryer conditions have impacted on markets in the south.
