Casino track to be closed

CASINO Racing Club’s course proper will be closed for at least one week after being reduced to a marsh at Saturday’s Rappville Cup meeting.

The five-race card went ahead despite severe rainfall which has left the track cut to bits and in need of a break.

Club secretary Dianne Stanley said officials persevered with racing on the day in the interest of punters but will now have a job to bring the track back up to scratch.

“They did really well to get through the day actually,” Stanley said. “It could take a while to get the track back in order but that is our job.”

The track was downgraded to a heavy 10 after race 1 and the remaining races were bought forward by 20 minutes as more threatening weather loomed.
