CASINO Lions Junior AFL

CASINO Lions Junior AFL matches were at John Rabjones Oval Murwillumbah against the Vulcans with the Lions proving dominant in all three grades
.

Under 10s

The U10s unbeaten run continued with a 14-10 (94) to 3-4 (22) victory over the in a free flowing encounter. Despite only fielding 9 players to the Vulcans 12 the faster and more skilled Lions through Saxon Heath (best on ground) were able to control and deliver the ball into the forward line where Atlas Irving (4 goals), Josh Speak (2) and Donny Saunders (2) were able to capitalise. Great attack and defence from Hugh Donnelly, Logan Stevenson, Jak Goulding, Tom Wyatt and Jack Masters ensured the Vulcans found scoring opportunities difficult.

Under 12s

The U12s with a four goal burst by Cleveland Sifoni (3) and Beau Donnelly (1) in the 1st quarter with the strong breeze enabled the Lions to establish a lead which they were able to hang onto against the wind at half time by 29 to 23. Inaccurate kicking with the wind in the 3rd quarter saw the Lions 12 scoring shots only realise 2 goals through Lachlan McNeill and a left foot snap from goal sneak Josh Speak on his way to a club record 50 goals. The Lions ran out 6-17 (53) to 3-5 (23) winners. Cleveland Sifoni, Conner Hannigan and Jake Patton stood up all game and were well supported by Thomas Moy, Troy McDonald, Logan Stewart, Nat Harper, Zac Wall, Daniel Owen, Dan Handocha, Tom Wyatt, Atlas Irving, Brodie Murphy, David Maloney, Hugh Donnelly and Donny Saunders. The game was excellently umpired by Casino's Katelyn Stevenson and Liam Fitzpatrick.

Under 14s

The U14s Lions dominated the Vulcans with a 1st quarter 8 goal burst through Tey Appleton (2), Braiden Heath (2), Hunter Stewart (2), Adrien Handocha and AJ Williams kicking with the strong breeze. Good defence from Jacob Jolley, Zac Green, Riley Patton, Liam Fitzpatrick , Eli Harper, Tom Masters, Liam Hadley, and Katelyn Stevenson held the Vulcans. The final score was Lions 13-13 (91) to Vulcans 11-9 (75) in the true spirit of junior football to provide completive skills development rather than team decimation.

Big club news is that AJ Williams has been selected to play in the Indigenous Allstars team in Sydney next month. We wish AJ well. The next game day will be on Sunday July 27 against the Ballina Bombers at Fripp Oval, Ballina, 10.30 for U12s and noon for the U14s. The U10s have a bye.
