Cash and iPad stolen from home while owner was gardening

WHILE a Bowen resident was working in his garden, an opportunistic thief has entered his home and stolen a quantity of cash and an iPad.

The means of entry was an unsecured back door at the home on Strickland St, police said.

The resident did not see or hear any thing suspicious at the time.

The incident is believed to have occurred some time after 11am on October 11, however, the items were confirmed as stolen the following day.

This circumstance is a reminder for residents that your presence at home or in the yard is not enough to deter opportunistic thieves.

When you are out in the yard, jobs/household duties (especially the unexpected ones) can become the sole focus of your attention, police said.

They said home security must be in our thoughts at all times.
