The game came to a halt in the eighth minute of the second half when Kelso succumbed to an injury received in the first half.
Star capitalised on the change of 'keepers with Carter finishing with four goals, Boothroyd two and Thomas Vantaggiato and Ritchie Wightman one each.
At Ballina, there was a plethora of yellow cards and a red to former inter-national Grant Smith.
Ballina played with 10 men from the 15th minute.
Ethan Whyte opened Coraki's account in the seventh minute but even with the one-man advantage Coraki never really got on top.
Ballina drew level just before half-time when Scott Hamilton converted a penalty corner.
