Carlson grabs maiden Pro Am win
QUEENSLANDER Kurt Carlson chalked up his first Pro Am victory in the $10,000 event at Casino on Monday.
Carlson, who plays out of Royal Queensland, had previously finished runner-up no less than 11 times.
But when he won he did it with some style, finally grabbing the top prize with a six-under par round of 64 and a decisive three-shot winning margin.
The winning score was set up with a brace of birdies from hole 11 to 14, in a bogey-free round.
Carlson, who played in the morning, was wishing the approaching rain might make things more difficult for his opposition but it held off until the field finished
He intends to use the $1800 purse, which moved him into the top 30 money earners on tour, to help finance a bid to qualify for the Canadian Tour next year
Lismore Pro Am winner, Nathan Main, shared second place with Lismore's Sam Brazel.
The women's winner was Nora Viel setting the standard with 43pts in the single stableford, one point ahead of Carol Ross.
Best of the males was Errol Kerr with 40pts followed by Andrew Campbell on 38pts.
