Car thieves extradited to Qld

TWO offenders who led police on a wild and reckless goose chase through Byron Bay were extradited to the Gold Coast today.

Karina Coleman, 21, and Ricky Jerkic, 23, both appeared in Lismore Local Court yesterday after police caught them in stolen car in Byron Bay on Friday.

Ms Coleman was wanted by Queensland police for failing to appear at Richlands Local Court, south of Brisbane, on a breach of probation charge earlier this month.

Mr Jerkic also had a warrant out for his arrest for failing to report to the Central and Northern Queensland Regulatory Parole Board on May 5.

Both offenders, who police facts classified as “associates”, were wanted for armed robbery, burglary and theft of motor vehicle offences.

Police facts stated the pair had a $500 a day drug habit, no source of income and no home.

Bail was not applied for and refused for both of the accused.

The offenders ended their stint on the run on Friday when Tweed-Byron highway patrol officers noticed the car they were in was stolen and car connected with an alleged assault that happened nearby.
