Teenager x-rayed after Goonellabah crash

UPDATE 4.20pm - A TEENAGE girl attended Lismore Base Hospital for an x-ray following a crash at Goonellabah this morning.

Lismore police Inspector Susie Johnston said witnesses to the crash said there were two cars involved in the incident but they weren't drag racing as initially thought.

Insp Johnston said the car had to be towed from the scene where it collided into a tree near the intersection of Fischer St and Wyreema Ave.

She said a 17-year-old girl required an x-ray on unknown injuries following the crash.

INITIAL REPORT 10:20am - AN ALLEGED drag race between two cars at Goonellabah has ended in a smash with one car hitting a tree and its occupants fleeing the scene.

A Newcastle Fire Communications spokesman said the Goonellabah brigade and Hazmat unit were called to Fischer St at 9.36am after reports of a crash.

When fire fighters arrived they found a car had hit a tree and nobody was with the vehicle, the spokesman said.

The spokesman said it is believed two cars were drag racing when the incident occurred.

Police and ambulance paramedics were also at the scene.
