Fire guts ute near Casino

UPDATE noon: A TOYOTA ute has been gutted by flames after its owner noticed smoke coming from the vehicle this morning.

The ute was being driven along Naughtons Gap Rd, 14km east of Casino at about 8.45am by a man who pulled over on the side of the road before the flames took hold.

Rural Fire Service Northern Rivers Operations Manager Daniel Ainsworth said when the man pulled over the fire started to spread.

He said two Rural Fire Service crews from Tomki and Caniaba raced to the scene minutes after a triple zero call reported the fire.

"The ute was fully engulfed in flames by the time the crews got to the scene," he said.

"The crews extinguished the ute with hoses."

Mr Ainsworth said the driver of the ute was not injured in the incident.

10am: RURAL fire service crews have rushed to a car fire on Naughtons Gap Road 14km east of Casino.

Reports from the scene are that a car caught fire when it was being driven along the road.

Two rural fire service crews from Caniaba and Tomki are on the scene.
