Car fire at Lismore Heights, grass fire at Ballina overnight

FIRE Fighters were called to High Street at Lismore Heights over night after reports a car was alight.

A Newcastle Fire Communications spokesman said fire fighters from the NSW Fire and Rescue Goonellabah station responded to a triple-0 call at 2:17.

The spokesman said when they arrived at the scene they found a car well alight.

Fire Fighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze before 3am but were unable to save the car.

Grass fire

Earlier NSW Fire and Rescue's Ballina unit were called to a grass fire on Norton Street, Ballina.

A Newcastle Fire Communications spokesman said fire fighters responded at 4:46pm.

The spokesman said fire fighters extinguished a 30 metre by 15 metre area of grass near the Richmond River Sailing Club.

No property was damaged in the fire.
