Pacific Highway reopened after fire but traffic still heavy

UPDATE 1.30pm: A BURNED vehicle and caravan blocking the Pacific Highway near Coolamon Scenic Drive have been cleared and the highway reopened.

The Traffic Management Centre advises that traffic on St Helena remains heavy and motorists planning to use the road should allow additional travel time.

11.50pm: THE PACIFIC Highway at Saint Helena was blocked in both directions after a car caught fire this morning.

At 10.53 am police received reports that a jeep towing a caravan was alight.

When police arrived at the scene the caravan had been detached from the jeep and left further down the Saint Helena hill.

Officers reported the jeep was well alight and nobody was in the vehicle.

The jeep is 200 metres north of the Coolamon Scenic Drive turnoff.

Police and fire fighters are on the scene.
