Driver injured in crash

A MAN was rushed to hospital yesterday afternoon after he crashed his car into a power pole in Byron Bay.

At 4.30pm, the man, believed to be in his 30s, was driving along Ewingsdale Road when his car veered off the road and collided with the pole near the BP petrol station.

He was trapped in his car for about an hour before the Volunteer Rescue Association and Rural Fire Service freed him from the wreckage.

He was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital via ambulance in a stable condition.

The road was closed in both directions after the crash.

Police and Country Energy were also on scene.
