Car bomb aimed at MPs' hotel

ISLAMIST militants rammed a car bomb into the gate of a hotel in Mogadishu, the Somalian capital, then stormed inside and killed 28 people and injured 43, officials said. Shots rang out on Wednesday as four militants burst into a hotel near parliament and popular with politicians. A second explosion shook the area soon after. The massive blasts blew the walls off parts of the hotel and damaged cars, shops and streets. Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack. It is trying to disrupt the indirect election where MPs choose a president.
