Cancer Council volunteers needed

The Cancer Council is building an information centre in the foyer of St Vincent’s Hospital and is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who would like to become part of the information centre team.

The centre is due to open in mid-July and offers volunteers a great opportunity to be part of a new service providing information and access to support services for cancer patients, and their families

As part of the Cancer Council Community Information Centre Volunteer Team, you will be responsible for helping visitors to the information centre to find relevant cancer-related information from various printed and electronic resources, and direct them to appropriate support services. You will also provide social support to cancer patients, their carers and families, within the hospital setting.

Essentially, you will demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills, attention to detail, a friendly, empathetic attitude and a willingness to learn about the range of cancer services available. Training will be provided prior to the centre’s opening.

If you would like to express your interest, contact Fiona Murray or Sandra Rowan on 6627 0300 or email fionam@nswcc.org.au by June 4.
