Cancer battle rages for Douglas

MICHAEL Douglas doesn't want any sympathy during his cancer battle.

The Oscar-winning actor is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment after doctors found a tumour at the base of his tongue but his 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' co-star Shia Le Beouf says Michael is strong enough to beat the disease and doesn't need pity from anyone.

Shia told US TV show 'Entertainment Tonight': "Michael is the epitome of strength. I mean, he's stoic, and I don't think he would want any kind of sympathy call or check-up at all. In fact, I think he's the exact opposite.

"I just think cancer picked the wrong guy when he picked Michael. Michael, he's going to be fine. He's got a good support system though. Good family, good friends. He'll be fine."

'Mad Men' star Jon Hamm - whose mother died of cancer -also spoke out about the 65-year-old star's cancer battle, wishing him a "speedy recovery."

He said: "I wish nothing but the best to Michael. He's an amazing actor, and amazing filmmaker, amazing producer, and a career that is admirable in many ways, so I wish nothing but the best for a speedy recovery for him."

The 65-year-old actor - who has two children Dylan, 10, and seven-year-old Carys with wife Catherine Zeta Jones, as well as 31-year-old Cameron with former spouse Diandra - remains optimistic about his chances of beating the disease and recently revealed the tumour is shrinking.

He said: "I like my odds. I'm not dealing with mortality issues until they tell me 'Oops we have to go back and do surgery' or something like that. The tumour is shrinking."
