Camera will give boaters better view of the bar

BOATERS will soon have a new camera that will show the conditions of the Richmond River bar at Ballina.

A camera was installed in 2008 at the mouth of the river to help skippers decide whether conditions were safe to cross the bar.

"This camera was one of the first in the RMS roll-out of cameras to improve safety on NSW coastal bars," Ballina MP Don Page said.

"The original camera was taken offline and relocated to allow for better viewing of the conditions.

"The new camera is compatible with smartphone technology and will be installed at the Ballina Surf Club in the coming weeks.

"Once the camera is connected and the data line is activated the camera will be operational."
