Camera captures intruders stealing from RSPCA shed

POLICE are investigating allegations that groups of people are using the RSPCA Queensland's Wacol donation shed "as their own personal store".

RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said the charity discovered four separate groups stealing donations of pet food and second-hand goods after going through CCTV footage from Sunday and Monday night.

"It was only by chance we went through the footage," he said.

Mr Beatty said the footage showed one group of women in particular spent more than half-an-hour rifling through donated items placed in the shed by members of the public.

The donations help feed animals at the Wacol centre and also help stock the RSPCA's charity stores.

Mr Beatty said the charity had passed the CCTV footage on to police to investigate.

Anybody who is caught taking items from a charity bin or shed on private property can potentially be charged with stealing.

RSPCA Queensland has publicly released part of the CCTV footage of at least three separate people who were seen entering the sheds on the nights the thefts are alleged to have occurred and has encouraged anyone with information to come forward.

Reports can be made by phoning Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
