Byron's own Tommy impresses Australia's Got Talent

TOMMY Franklin - aka the dancing man - has taken his moves from the streets of Byron to the Australia's Got Talent stage.

On Sunday night, Mr Franklin wowed audiences with his audition, successfully making it through to the semi-finals of the show.

Mr Franklin received unanimous votes from the four judges for his unchorographed dance where he said he "just felt the music".

He will now move onto the semi-finals round of Australia's Got Talent where the Australian public will vote for their favourite act.

The Byron-based lad said he found the audition process "nerve racking".

"I love sharing what I do with people, but to go onto a show and to be judged on what you do was pretty daunting," Mr Franklin said.

He said dancing had allowed him to find hope after years of drug and alcohol addiction, which lead him to contemplate suicide at 16.

"Things can be hard and it's easy to switch off or drown your sorrows," Mr Franklin said.

"Kids think that's the only way out and that's what I did and I almost lost my life.

"I want kids to know there is another way."

Mr Franklin said if he went on to win the competition, he would use the step up to educate children in schools about living a healthy lifestyle through dance workshops.

In any event, the dancing man is going to keep on dancing for his "own thrills".

"When you sing or dance you're putting your heart into it and that's how I express myself every day," Mr Franklin said.

Mr Franklin will now move on to the semi-finals round of Australia's Got Talent, where the Australian public will vote for their favourite act.

In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for the dancing man practising his moves on the streets of Byron.
