Byron luxury rental boom

A BYRON Bay real estate agency that specialises in luxury rentals has just racked up its best year as city-siders clamour for a coastal holiday.

Sarah Ogilvie of Unique Estates said in terms of takings and confirmed bookings, 2012 was her best year with 2013 also off to a very strong start.

Most of Unique Estates' local holiday stock is booked out for the peak season, with prices up to $20,000 a week for a home in Byron Bay.

Ms Ogilvie said she received up to 20 inquiries a day for accommodation in the lead up to New Year's Eve and even three calls on the day itself from people who had left it to the last minute.

She said properties with more than five bedrooms and a pool were in particularly high demand.
