Byron locals protest road closure

ABOUT 30 people from Byron Bay held placards and gathered this morning on the side of Lighthouse Road to protest the road's closure.

It has been five years since part of the road collapsed after heavy rainfall and residents are frustrated that nothing has been done to fix the road.

"We're appalled," long-term resident and protest organiser Allan Cowley said.

"It is a disgrace that it has been five years and the road and walkway are still not finished."

Mr Cowley brought out cake and champagne, but as he said the event wasn't a celebration but a commiseration.
