Byron KFC sign not so finger lickin’ good

IN A MOVE likely to inflame opposition to KFC in Byron Bay, the applicants are seeking consent to remove a tree to erect an 8.5m high illuminated sign promoting the store on Jonson St.

In the development application that went on display at Mullumbimby Council Chambers today, the applicants Turner Retail Pty Ltd, are seeking permission to open a food shop and 28-seat restaurant trading 7am - 11pm seven days-a-week in the shopping precinct on the western side of Woolworths.

The application says the sign which would be erected after the tree was removed "towards the Jonson St frontage of the site", would not obscure any significant views or dominate the skyline and is of an appropriate scale and "will add visual interest to the site".

The proposed development will remain open to public comment until January 28.
