Byron KFC plan on display tomorrow

BYRON Shire Council mayor Simon Richardson is predicting the controversial move to open a KFC in Byron Bay will end up in the Land and Environment Court.

It comes as the DA for the store proposed for the shopping precinct next to Woolworths goes on display at Mullumbimby Council Chambers tomorrow until the end of the month.

Cr Richardson and youth worker Nicqui Yazdi are spearheading a campaign against KFC.

They are calling for volunteers to staff street stalls to gather names for a petition.

They also want to hear from any retailers who could host petitions.

Cr Richardson, who was also on the frontline of the successful fight against McDonalds in 1997, said that no council resources would be used in his anti-KFC activities.

A Northern Rivers couple are behind the application which would see the KFC open at a former music store.

Opponents to the development application have set up a Facebook page.
