Byron is Australia’s best beachside town
BYRON Bay has received the award for Best Beachside Town at the 2015 Australian Traveller Magazine People's Choice Awards.
North Coast Nationals MLC Ben Franklin said the awards were held in Sydney this week with NSW taking home more awards than any other State.
"This is a really good thing for Byron - the award is a people's choice meaning it was voted best by Australian Travellers' readers out of more than 4,000 entries," Mr Franklin said.
"It shows that the region must be doing something right, and full credit must go to the local tourism operators for really developing the region's strong points.
"Ecotourism, cultural tourism, extreme sports and activities; it all helps to make the area so unique and it's fundamentally why people love the area.
"Awards like these help to further promote the variety of products and experiences on offer and provide added inspiration for people to plan a trip to the North Coast."
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres welcomed the accolades and said that this achievement would shine a light on NSW destinations.
"With six World Heritage areas, 850 national parks and reserves, a coastline with over 720 stunning beaches, visitors to NSW are spoilt by choice and we are thrilled to see that our State has been praised by Australian Travellers' readers."
The 2015 Australian Traveller People's Choice Awards received more than 4,000 entries with the winners and runners up of this extensive survey of Australia's best holiday destinations, to be published in the December/January issue of the Australian Traveller magazine.
