Byron Bay wins it’s sixth straight NSW Country Titles

BYRON BAY won for a sixth straight year at the NSW Country Surf Life Saving Championships at South West Rocks.

They traded the lead with Cudgen throughout the two-day carnival.

Winners from Byron Bay included Paige Leishman, who powered home in the Under-14 ironwoman event ahead of Cudgen duo Hayley Smith and Sophie Watson.

Scott McCartney, Josh Jones and Smith were the standouts for Cudgen, which finished just seven points behind in second place.

"I'm very happy to get the win as it highlights to me that all my hard work at training is paying off," Leishman said.

"I'm really enjoying my time at Byron Bay - every- one is just so supportive and there's a lot of great coaching and competitors.

"It's a lot of fun."

Byron Bay teenager Joanna Charles took out the Under-19 ironwoman and single ski event while Jy Timperley won the Under-17 board, ironman and single ski.

Timperley also claimed victory in the Under-19 double ski with Bradley Kay.

Charles and Jayden Morgan won the open and Under-19 female double ski and also the ski relay with Madeline McCullagh.

Morgan claimed the Under-19 female beach sprint and 2km beach run.

Elsewhere, Joanne Kay and Helen Murray won the female board race in the 40-49 years division.

Murray also won the ironwoman and 2km beach run, finished second in the surf race and third in the female single ski.

Beau Carter took out the Under-13 board race, male sprint, mixed surf team and board relay events.

Meanwhile, Ballina's Todd Muller won the 2km beach run and flags in the 30-39 years while Mahli Borham won the open and Under-17 female beach sprint.

Wyana Pietramale-Sewell picked up a gold medal for Brunswick in the Under-9 female beach flags.

Lennox Head were strong in nippers events with Niamh Sharpe winning the Under-9 board, beach sprint and surf race.

Thomas Grimston, Ben Miller and Maalik Moston won the Under-10 mixed board relay while Oliver Sharpe won the Under-11 ironman.
