Parkway Drive nominated for ARIA
FOR the first time, Byron Bay’s Parkway Drive are contenders for an ARIA Award – short-listed for the Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album.
The metalcore group has been nominated for their third studio album, Deep Blue.
The album scorched the charts both at home and overseas, debuting at number two on the ARIA charts and number 39 on the US Billboard charts.
The nomination took Parkway Drive lead singer, Winston McCall, by surprise.
“It’s totally unexpected for us. We had no idea that this was on the cards,” McCall told The Northern Star.
“It’s unusual for the kind of music that we make to be nominated for an ARIA.
“We are pretty stoked though, especially since there are so many amazing Australian bands out there.”
The news came for McCall on the eve of the band’s sold-out Melbourne concert.
The gig is part of the group’s current Australian tour, which has seen them sell out from Byron Bay to Hobart.
“Being nominated for an ARIA pretty much tops off a huge year for us. The current tour of Australia has just been amazing – the crowds have been going nuts,” he said.
“After the Australian tour finishes, we’re off to Europe.”
It is Parkway Drive’s upcoming European tour which will prevent the guys from attending the ARIA awards in Sydney in November.
“I’ll probably be in the back of a tour bus somewhere in Germany when the winner is read out,” McCall said.
Other nominees for an ARIA include sensational sibling duo, Angus and Julia Stone, who have received six nominations, including the coveted Album of the Year for their critically-acclaimed album, Down the Way.
Perth bands have made a big impact this year. The West Coast quartet Birds Of Tokyo have scored six nominations for their self-titled album, including Best Rock Album, while newcomers Tame Impala make their ARIA debut with their brilliant psychedelic rockalbum Innerspeaker, also nominated for Best Rock Album.
