Byron artists on show in council offices
IT'S fitting that in a region that boasts so many creative people, Byron Shire Council's administrative office's foyer should contain a corner devoted to art.
Affectionately known as The Cube - as the installation is basically a perspex and timber box - the smallest gallery in the shire, as it is commonly described, was set up two years ago to promote local three-dimensional Art.
South Golden Beach multi-disciplinary artist Claire Atkins, who works in ceramics, printmaking and fibre arts, is the latest to exhibit at The Cube.
Her collection called 'Fragile' is comprised of hand-crafted stained porcelain domestic ware that is meant to be admired as well as eaten off.
"It raises a banal activity like having a coffee into a ritual," says Claire of her works which are for sale.
Claire said "funky mums" tended to be her biggest customers.
The 'Fragile' exhibition will be staged for six weeks.
