Buzzing for Light Year in Byron
LIGHT Year are Jordan and Mikey, two guys out of Sydney who are impressing the big names in dance. Their most notable works to date are Sex Education (2010) and 5 Girls (2010). When Pulse spoke to French beat-maker Surkin recently he gave the guys a big rap and Soulwax said the guys were taking over the world. Before they do, however, they talk to CASSANDRA TOBIN.
Being stuck in a room with Light Year is like:
That dream your body suddenly shocks you awake from.
The best thing about working with Surkin is:
He has this dance move he does when he gets excited. Like the Pharrell shoulder shrug, it’s tight.
Do you get sick of comparisons to the character by the name of Buzz?
Absolutely not. We have his figurine in our studio and it writes most of our music for us. He’s a studio wizard as much as an action hero, but he is a tyrant to work with.
Five girls is based on a true story - true/false:
True, the finer details are better left unsaid.
The best part of the USA vacation tour was:
1. In and Out Burger
2. Mexican food
3. Six Flags
5. Peter Nussbaum
What/who makes Light Year dance?
Our new remix package called Light Year – 5 REMIXE5, which will be released on July 1, on BangGang. Remix artists include Harvard Bass, The Finger Prince, Malente, Alex Gopher and Strip Steve. A little self-promotion.
What can Byron Bay expect at your gig on Saturday?
We’ll have the time of our life, no we’ve never felt like this before, yes we swear it’s the truth and we’ll owe it all to yoooooooooou!
And what can we expect from Light Year beyond this date?
Our 5 REMIXE5 package which we mentioned earlier. We’ve also done remixes for Alex Gopher and some other dudes that are coming out over the coming months. Plus we have collaborated with fellow BangGanger The Finger Prince and finished two tracks which are getting support from Tiga. The details of this project are still under wraps but more news coming soon.
Light Year meet Trip Kicker Buzz, the rest of the crew, Stretch, Mr Clifford and Altowave on Saturday at The Northern, Byron Bay. Tickets $24, doors open 9pm.
