Buying local is Howard's cup of tea

AS managing director of Alstonville-based company Koala Teas, Howard Rubin is a great supporter of buying locally.

“We always try to source anything we need from local suppliers,” he said.

Koala Teas has been in existence for 16 years and grew out of a company called Herb Farms Australia.

“At that time - 23 years ago - we were keen to develop the local herb-growing industry, but local growers couldn't keep pace with our growth. So we've had to source the herbs for our teas from other places as well to meet demand,” Mr Rubin said.

With its distinctive labelling featuring koalas and kangaroos, Koala Teas are sold in Australia and exported to the world.

“Our biggest-sellers are Dreamtime and No Worries Teas. You can buy them at Fundamental Foods, Healthy Life and Go Vita Stores,” Mr Rubin said.
